Artist Bio

I have been fortunate to participate in artist residencies over the last decade in a number of remote North American locations. These experiences have reshaped the context of my work to reflect on the geological history of place and how the land and waters of our planet will change and adapt to the future of a shifting climate. The gifts of time and space which a residency provides has greatly impacted my ability to expand this series.

I was born in New York City and am now based in Eugene. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach as an adjunct instructor for 15 years at the University of Oregon Art and Design Department, Lane Community College and instruct workshops at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. 

I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Art Institute and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon. My work is now included in over 30 public collections internationally and has been in over 150 juried and invitational exhibitions.

In recent years I have exhibited solo exhibitions at Augen Gallery in Portland, Seattle Art Museum Gallery, Davidson Galleries in Seattle, Karin Clarke Gallery in Eugene and Oregon State University's Strand Gallery. I have participated in over 150 international and national juried exhibitions including the Berlin Print Biennial, Pacific States Print Biennial, The Atlanta Print Biennial and the Boston Printmakers Biennial.

Artist Statement

“Algae Universe” is part of the "Celestial Oceans” series. “Celestial Oceans” considers intricate systems of microscopic ocean life that forms simultaneously with the expansive telescopic realm of our solar system's star formations. These natural realities, dissimilar in scope, yet at times indistinguishable in form, overlap and intertwine in my imagination offering boundless creative possibility.

I began this series of etchings by researching and imagining what ocean organisms looked like from a microscopic view. I always felt the beauty is in the details. I started to daydream about the delicate cycle of microscopic life forms within ocean waters. This work serves as a playground for new realities too energetic to be positioned in any one place, where color is ethereal, vivid, and brilliant and where light is unpredictable and form vibrates, allowing access into the immensity of the unexplored abundance of ocean life forms and to imagine what is often unseen by human eyes. It has enabled me to feel the freedom to conjure up images from the magnificent and mysterious realms of ocean life and outer space.
